Recently, we celebrated Hari Raya across 4 centres – Josiah Suntec, Josiah Changi, Josiah Tampines and Josiah Aperia. Let’s take a look and see what the 4 centres did for the Hari Raya Celebration!

Hari Raya was celebrated on 30th June. Children came dressed in their colourful Malay traditional costume – baju kebaya and baju kurung for girls and baju melayu for boys or any ethnic costume as part of an immersion learning experience across cultures.

The event started with a group Cultural Talk, where the children learn more about the Malay culture and the significance of celebrating Hari Raya. The teachers did a dramatization on how Hari Raya is celebrated (i.e. visiting the elderly and relatives, how they ask for forgiveness and introduction to some of the Malay traditional and modern cookies). The teachers also put up a dance performance for the children, after which the children were invited to participate in the dance performance and dance along with the popular raya music.

As accustomed, different stations were set up namely Culture, Cookery, Games, and Art & Craft. After the group activity, the children were dispersed in groups into different stations, where they participated in the station’s activity. At the cookery station, our little ones had fun making a sweet treat of “Honey Cornflakes” and afterwards enjoyed eating their fruits of labour! At the Art and Craft station, they made their own ‘Eid Stained Glass Craft.’ Lastly, at the game corner, our little ones played traditional games such as “Songket Relay” and congkak. To end the celebration, the teachers also had set up a “Runway” for the children to parade their beautiful costumes!
