CNY CELEBRATIONS 2019

Did somebody say Chinese New Year (CNY)? CNY is one of our favourite festivals because it’s a season where we can get together with our friends and family – people we hold close to our hearts – to celebrate the season and to reunite with one another over amazing food like CNY goodies!

Early that morning, our beautiful teachers and glorious children sashayed into the centre, decked in their glamorous traditional Chinese outfits – all prepared for a catwalk down the red carpet! It was an amazing sight to behold! The brightly coloured costumes brought so much life, colour and joy to the centres!

The day started with a BANG – literally! We had amazing lion dance performances by our very own teachers; we even had a team of teachers playing the traditional drums and cymbals – it was EPIC! The children loved the performance so much and the atmosphere was filled with excitement throughout.

The children were also taught the traditional culture of greeting the elders and declaring well wishes over them as they present the elders with a pair of mandarin oranges. In return, the elders will bless the young with red packets and well wishes! The children also had fun playing games with their friends using mandarin oranges.

And how can we have a CNY celebration without some CNY goodies and CNY songs? We had some really yummy CNY goodies such as dumplings, rice balls and many other snacks, while we sang along to popular CNY songs. We even had the privilege to watch some really mind-blowing magic tricks!

Some of the older children even got to perform some of the really amazing songs! We also learned the names and significance of the various CNY goodies (hey, we know why we’re eating what we eat!) and we even had a tea ceremony! Any tea lovers in the house who share the same joy?

Before the day ended, the children each received a red packet filled with gold chocolate coins as a blessing from the teachers. It was a wonderful, activity-packed day for all of us hooray!
