What is “The Josiah Way”?

The Josiah Way consists of 2 components – The Montessori Method and Musical Arts Experience. Before we explain further on what exactly the above-mentioned terms mean, let’s first zoom in on the 21st Century Educational Framework, one of the frameworks we have built our curriculum here at Josiah Montessori upon.

21st Century Educational Framework

The 21st Century Educational Framework is a framework introduced by the Ministry of Education (MOE), to help our future generation thrive in the next era. MOE has highlighted areas of personal development that have become increasingly important in the 21st century. These competencies as represented in the above framework underpins the holistic education that your child needs, to better prepare for his/her future.

Here at Josiah Montessori, we believe in working with you parents hand-in-hand, to grow your beloved in developing these 21st Century Competencies. Equipped with such skills and competencies, our beloved little ones would be empowered and enabled to capitalise on the rich opportunities of the new digital age, while keeping and building on a strong and positive character – which are exactly the outcomes we want to see in our children.

We also understand that education is a lifelong journey, and we believe that learning should start as young as possible. It is important to us that we adhere to the framework introduced by MOE to better prepare our students for their future learning journey.

We call this The Josiah Way.

The “Missing Link”

So, how does the curriculum at Josiah Montessori adhere to and bring out the intended effect prescribed by MOE’s 21st Century Educational Framework?

The Josiah Way addresses the 6 Learning Areas of MOE’s Kindergarten Curriculum Framework envisioned by MOE. They are:

  1. Aesthetics and Creative Expression
  2. Discovery of the World
  3. Language and Literacy
  4. Motor Skills Development
  5. Numeracy
  6. Social and Emotional Development

By combining the Montessori Method and our Musical Arts Programme (MAP), our children acquire the abovementioned knowledge, skills and learning dispositions.

At Josiah, we take great pride that we align our vision with MOE, that knowledge and skills must be underpinned by values. The Josiah Way aims to nurture the beliefs, attitudes and actions of your child in the following values:

  1. Self-Awareness
  2. Self-Management
  3. Social Awareness
  4. Relationship Management
  5. Responsible Decision-Making

Through Josiah, we hope to see your child grow as a self-directed learner, an active contributor to the society, a concerned citizen of his/her nation, and a confident individual to tackle future challenges in life. Ultimately, at Josiah, we want to set your child up for success in the increasingly globalised world.

After all this talk, you must be wondering: Yes, your curriculum plan sounds really great. But, how do you prove its effectiveness? Are there any visible results yielded?

Our answer to you is YES – our testimonials from our students’ parents speak great volume.
